Are you angry all the time?

To experience anger is part of human nature. Anger can range from a strong feeling, annoyance, or hostility. We have angry feelings when we are subjected to conditions we don’t like.

Anger is typically an attempt to control the actions or behaviour of others. In other words, it is the result of frustration when you do not get what you want, need or expect from life.

Everyone expresses anger differently. Anger itself is neither good nor bad. However, how you express your anger, determines whether it becomes a problem or not.

Some people are able control their anger. They can manage their anger before they act out of control. However not everyone can express this healthy kind of anger. For some people, their anger becomes so uncontrollable, that it leads to destructive behaviour.

If you are angry all the time, or can’t control your anger, it means that your anger is unhealthy.  Unhealthy anger can range from being insensitive to another person’s feelings to out-of-control, raging hostility. It makes life unpleasant and can bring emotional and physical harm to others.

Too much anger can lead to very negative results like domestic violence, road rage and other acts of aggression.

When you get angry, adrenaline and other hormones are released into your bloodstream. It means that your blood pressure goes up, your heart beats faster and you breathe faster. Anger and constant hostility keeps your blood pressure high and increases the chances of having a heart attack or stroke.

When you are angry it is hard to think straight or express yourself correctly.  Most of all anger is counterproductive. In addition to the physical effect of anger, uncontrolled anger can negatively affect your personal and social life.

When your reactions become destructive to yourself as well as others you need to find a way to address your anger.  Problems with anger can often be a symptom of stress, anxiety and trauma. Whatever the root cause of a your anger, it is important to deal with this negative emotion.

  • Directly through lasing out
  • Indirectly by not responding, pouting or running away
  • Actively with verbal or physical attack
