Hypnosis

Hypnosis is nothing more than a very relaxed state of mind. It is basically a sleep state but different to the sleep you have at night. When you sleep at night it is an unconscious sleep, in other words you are not aware that you are sleeping.

Hypnosis is not the same as the sleep you have at night. It is a very relaxed sleep where you are fully aware of everything that goes on around you. While in hypnosis you’ll be able to think, talk and open your eyes at anytime.

It is also a natural state that you are in at least twice a day, that is, just before you go to sleep at night, and first thing in the morning when you have just woken up and have not opened your eyes. When you are daydreaming or concentrating you are also in a state of hypnosis.

In the hypnotic state the mind is more able to concentrate, imagine and remember. This is why when you are in the relaxed state of hypnosis your mind will accept patterns of thinking that enables behaviour modification or change.

Hypnosis can also be described as a state of attentive, responsive concentration. It is an ability to concentrate, a willingness to imagine and an openness to suggestion. What appears to be a loss of control is really an exercise in greater control. It is not something a hypnotist does to you. You do it to yourself. It is the product of your inclination, not the hypnotists will.

In hypnosis you relax completely, reduce your peripheral awareness and increase your focal attention. This in turn increases your concentration and when you concentrate better you develop exquisite receptivity.

Modern clinical hypnotherapist use hypnosis for medical purposes, to resolve many psychological problems and helping client make positive changes in their lives.
